Every guide here is about a real place and a real celebration, and every guide shows you where we learned it.
Where our information comes from
We start with official sources: city and state tourism offices, event organizers, museums, cultural centres and local governments. We add established travel and news outlets, and the words of the communities that keep these traditions. Every guide links to its sources at the end.
How we check dates and details
- Event dates and times are checked against the organizer's own announcement for the current year. When a date is not confirmed yet, we say so.
- Prices, opening hours and transport change often. We give the date we last checked them.
- Places we recommend are chosen because locals and visitors value them, never because someone paid us.
How we write about the traditions
- With respect. Día de los Muertos honours the dead and family memory. We explain what traditions mean and how visitors can take part without intruding, especially in cemeteries and at family altars.
- In plain words. Short paragraphs, clear headings and the Spanish names with their meanings.
- In our own words. We do not copy other sites' articles or photos.
Our pictures
We use our own artwork and licensed or credited photos. We never pass off a picture of one place as another.
